Here are my last minute (and affordable) gift ideas!

  • Hobby related gifts: My dad absolutely loves bike riding, so my go- to father’s day gifts have always been some new bike gear, such as a cow printed bike jersey (So funny!). If your dad’s hobby requires expensive equipment, then you can always participate in his favorite hobby with him. Father’s day is all about celebrating the father figure in your life, which can be with either gifts or experiences that he’ll enjoy. Some other employees in our office are taking their dad to a sporting event such as a baseball or soccer game. Stubhub.com is a great website to find marked down tickets to sporting events, concerts, or plays.
  •  Candy: Our Director of Operations, Susie, used to always give her dad his favorite toffee candies for father’s day.  My dad is a huge candy addict, so I often gift him some of his favorite chocolates from See’s candies. If your dad lives out of state, then some great website to find candy/chocolate that ship quickly is berries.com and oldtimecandy.com. Old Time Candy Company ships retro candy, which is a very unique gift and would really impress your dad!

  •  Crafty gifts: I think the best gift that you could give anyone is one where you had to put in a lot of effort or thought into creating it.  A crafty gift could either be a card that you decorated yourself, a hand painted “DAD” mug, or a bakery item. The card featured below was made by simply painting bow tie pasta- how creative is that!? Check out this Pinterest board for “wow” worthy DIY father’s day craft ideas! My favorite on the board is the necktie cookie!

Travelers: What makes a great gift?

Traveling is so much fun, especially when you are with your loved ones. Everyone knows that with all these new rules in place, it can be pretty challenging to get everything ready for your trip. However for the frequent traveler it is easier because they are constantly going in and out of airports. My best friend is one of these frequent travelers and I always have such a hard time trying to figure out what to buy her for her birthday and Christmas. Thankfully there are multiple gifts you can give them, but I have chosen my top 5 favorite gifts that are perfect for the frequent traveler in your life.

travel1

  1. The Apple IPod/IPad: Now I know what most of you are thinking, why on earth would I buy an IPod or IPad, they are super expensive. While yes they are expensive they are perfect for the frequent traveler, they are small, convenient, and of course help pass the time (especially if you don’t like who you are sitting next to). These little beauties range anywhere from $50 for the IPod Shuffle to $800 for the 64 GB IPad and can be bought at www.apple.com or any major electronics retailer.

travel2

2. Boarding Pass Holder: A boarding pass holder is perfect because it gives you the ability to show all your necessary documents without having to dig through your carry on, because there is always that one person (it’s usually me) that has to dig through everything to find their boarding pass. A place for your ID and Passport make it easy to go right through security. These are $10 (such an awesome deal!) from www.travelonbags.com and come in a variety of colors and patterns, for every taste.

3. A neck pillow, eye mask, and blanket: When most of us are traveling, we sometimes forget that we are going to be on a plane sitting for an extended period of time, and we want to be comfortable (we all know those airplane seats are not the most comfortable). A neck pillow will give your neck the perfect support so that you don’t get a crick in your neck. A blanket is a great gift option! Airplanes tend to be a little colder because of the pressurized air in the cabin. An eye mask is perfect for those travelers who fly the overnight flights, allowing them to get some shut eye (I love mine, and I don’t even travel that much!). This Nap Gift Set for Travel from www.brookstone.com is $64.98 comes with all three.

travel5

4.  A luggage scale: A luggage scale is an absolute must for any frequent traveler! The airlines a few years ago came up with the brilliant (not really!) idea that in if we charge for checked bags over a certain weight, we can offset our fuel costs. This did not boast well for the American travelers (How am I going to get all my shoes in my bag?). By having a luggage scale you can avoid paying the fees associated with your suitcase being over the recommended weight! This Balanzza Ergo Scale (I love the green color!) is $24.95 from www.balanzzastore.com.

5. A unique luggage tag: Everyone knows that baggage claim is quite a pain. All the suitcases look exactly the same. Aside from completely purchasing a brand new luggage set (they are just so gosh darn expensive!). A luggage tag can take care of this. They come in different designs and colors making them a great addition to any bland/boring suitcase. These are great for if your luggage mysteriously disappears. This coated canvas luggage tag with a colorful mosaic design is from www.tepperjacksononline.com, and goes for $19.50 (I love the colors and price!).

There are numerous gifts that you can get a frequent traveler, but you must also remember that each person has their own unique style. I think I may have finally figured out what to get my friend for her next birthday. Hope everyone has a wonderful day, and don’t forget to drop by PacificPillows.com for all your needs!! Happy Gift Hunting!

How to Recreate the Romantic Hotel-Getaway Experience at Home

With how busy our lives get we often forget to sit back and truly spend time with our significant others, but let’s face it; we don’t always have the finances to be able to have a romantic hotel getaway.  So let’s improvise, I am going to help you create a hotel getaway in the comfort of your home. In order to have a distraction free weekend you need to arrange for your kids to be somewhere else whether it’s at their grandparents, or a friend’s house.  Do things together that you haven’t been able to do in a long time: lie in the backyard and gaze at the stars, take a hike, go on a bike ride, play golf or have a picnic in   the park.  Just make sure you and your spouse do one thing that each of you wants to do. This weekend is all about you two and your romantic hotel getaway at home.   The most important thing to remember is to have fun and relax; it’s only a few days, so make the most of it.

Steps:

1.   Re-Creating Your Bedroom

  • Bedding– Remove the bedding you always sleep on and put on some fresh new sheets preferably something soft and luxurious. Add more pillows to your bed; it will give it a cloud like feel.  Make your bed as comfortable as possible.
  • Candles– Set the mood with some romantic candle light, line the room with them, and also your bathroom tub, then take a nice relaxing bath togetherfile5061249573949
  • Massage oil– Purchase some massage oil and take turns giving each other massages.

2.     Cleaning the House

  • Taking down pictures of kids– This weekend is about you two, so take down any pictures of the kids or close their bedroom doors.  You want it to be relaxing and sometimes kids are not… So do yourself a favor and try to keep thinking about the kids to a minimal amount.
  • Make it neat– You want to make your house feel like you are getting away to a hotel.  So pick up around the house and make sure it is clean before you start your weekend.  You don’t want to worry about house duties when you are trying to relax.

3.  Fun Items

  • Favorite beverages– Purchase a bottle of champagne/wine, or items to make your favorite cocktail, or a case of beer.
  • Ice Bucket –Keep an ice bucket or cooler in the bedroom to keep your beverages cool and easily accessible.
  • Extra Pillows– As I said before you want to make your bed as comfortable as you can. Adding some extra pillows to your bed to give you the ultimate comfort and that will make you not want to get out of bed.

  • Music source– Set the mood with some smooth music with an IPod docking station or radio.
  • Rose Petals – Rose petals are always good to set a romantic theme for the night.  So lay some rose petals on the ground, on the bed, even in the bath water. file000870148085
  • Wine Glasses – Along with the ice bucket you’re going to need some wine glasses.
  • Bubble Bath – Every woman loves taking bubble baths, try taking a bath together. By including bubble bath and rose petals you set the ultra-romantic getaway.

4.   Having a Plan

  • What to not talk about– You and your spouse should set rules about; what not to talk about on your romantic-getaway.  Typically good ones are: don’t talk about the kids, work, and family, or anything that creates stress.  Focus on the two of you; it probably doesn’t happen very often so take advantage of it.
  • Have a plan for the weekend – Depending on the type of person you are, planning may or may not be a good thing.  It’s always good to have a basic idea of what you two want to do during your weekend.  Try doing something your spouse wants to do but also do something that you like to do.
  • Order In– If you want the full hotel experience order in. This is just like when you order room service. The point is to not have to cook. Unless you two enjoy cooking together than go for it, but order in and go out to eat as much as you can.  If you eat in or make your own food its best to purchase paper plates and cups to eat and drink on, so you don’t have dishes to do.  You want to do as little as you can around the house during your getaway.

Every relationship needs nurturing and lots of attention.  Make your relationship healthy and take time for you and your spouse to have your own getaway, have a weekend to yourselves every once and a while.  Once kids come into your lives everything gets so crazy, time flies by so quickly, and you’re busy all the time so you sometimes forget to focus on your relationship and it starts to slip through the cracks.  Don’t let that happen; make your relationship the best that it can be.
